Based on the KDE plasma desktop, TUXEDO OS creates a user experience that is also suitable for beginners with a large and flexible feature set for Linux professionals. With its Linux optimized hardware, TUXEDO delights customers with different levels of knowledge about computers in general and Linux in particular.

This ranges from customers who come into contact with Linux for the first time via a TUXEDO and are happy about the comfort of a system pre-installed down to the smallest detail, to professionals who have been using Linux for years. Between these two poles we support distributions like Ubuntu, Kubuntu or openSUSE for our customers and also give noncommittal assistance for other distributions.

But no matter if you are a beginner or a professional - for users who just want to switch on their TUXEDO and start working out-of-the-box and get fast help in case of problems, we offer TUXEDO OS. What distinguishes TUXEDO OS in detail from its base Ubuntu / Kubuntu.

With the release of Ubuntu 22.04 LTS “Jammy Jellyfish”, TUXEDO OS with KDE Plasma has received a new desktop environment, replacing Budgie as the default desktop. This was accompanied by a lot of changes, which we explain in more detail in this article.
More than a change of scenery

TUXEDO OS goes far beyond the optical adjustments to the company's image of TUXEDO computers, with many hours of developer time in the latest issue of the operating system for TUXEDO notebooks and PCs. The decision for KDE Plasma as a desktop environment was made because of the unattainable configurability elsewhere. This allows us to design the system freely according to our ideas.

The customer can of course completely overthrow this and realize his own ideas. GNOME at Ubuntu leaves much less room for manoeuvre. For a system that is suitable to use from the start, a few extensions are required there, which in the past did not work with a new GNOME version. Despite the extensive configuration, the consumption of memory is at a comparable level immediately after starting.
