Knoppel – a project based on Knoppix, the main goal is to provide a live-cd for the Greek community based on the needs of Greek speaking users.
Knoppel is a “live” version of linux. This means that you can boot from your CD-ROM without touching anything on your hardware and specifically without requiring a partition on your hard drive.
The general philosophy of KNOPPEL is to have the smallest possible recording capabilities. For this reason, the existing partitions are or are not attached at all or attached only to “read”. If you right-click on the device you can select “Change to Recording / Reading” to make the device recordable.
CAUTION: Recording to NTFS partitions can result in data loss, since Linux does not fully support this file system! However, the DOS and FAT32 file systems are safe to write.
KNOPPEL = KNOPPix + ELlinika
It’s an easy solution to run Linux on your computer from a CD without having it installed permanently.
